The Maiensäss is a traditional log house from the last centuries, which has been rebuilt in a top modern way. With a cozy interior, a crackling fireplace and an inviting terrace, the Maiensäss invites you to leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life behind and enjoy the beauty of nature.
On the first floor there is a spacious kitchen with a gas stove and oven, as well as a small refrigerator. The modern bathroom has a shower, which is supplied with hot water by the solar boiler. Upstairs is the double loft bed, which sleeps 4 comfortably. The sofa with the breathtaking view of the mountains can be converted into additional sleeping places.

Getting around
The Maiensäss is a 20-minute drive (steep mountain road) from the village of Untervaz. The last part of the road is a gravel road and must be driven carefully. In addition, the house is not on the road, but 150 meters above it, secluded in the mountain landscape. This last stretch from the parking lot to the house is a relatively steep walk through the meadow.
Neighbourhood
The secluded Maiensäss in the mountains is a peaceful retreat surrounded by majestic nature. It is the perfect starting point for outdoor activities and allows guests to recharge their batteries in seclusion and experience the tranquillity of the mountains. There is a forest right next to the Maiensäss. Various wild animals (hares, marmots, deer, stags, birds) can often be observed from the house. The Maiensäss is situated at the foot of the Calanda mountain, which means that you can reach the peaks of the Swiss Alps on a short hike. A steep 20-minute hike up the mountain is a cow pasture, which is operated in summer. There you can get fresh alpine milk or have a drink in the bistro.
Other things to note
Winter Information (November - April): The mountain road to Maiensäss is not serviced in winter and therefore a hike of 2.5 hours (with snowshoes) must be expected. In winter there is no running water in the house and no drinking water in the wells. Drinking water has to be carried up by yourself. In winter this hut is only suitable for adventurers who dare to do this hike and the circumstances that go along with it.
In October, as well in beginning of May, access by car is not fully guaranteed, but very likely possible. It is recommended to have snow chains in the car during this time.
General Information (May - September) The log cabin is not connected to the water mains, which is why filtered rainwater comes out of the taps. For drinking water fresh spring water can be fetched from the well 130 m away with canisters or carried up by the guests themselves in bottles.
The Maiensäss is self-sufficient in terms of water and electricity. It is therefore important that both are used sparingly. In bad weather, hot water can become scarce.
The Maiensäss is not directly accessible by car, you can reach it on foot (about 150m) over a steep meadow. The road from the village of Untervaz to the Maiensäss is a narrow steep mountain road with a gravel road at the end.
Since the house is in the nature, it is possible that there are various insects (like flies or ants) in the house.
